Oxybates are designed to work while you sleep

The exact way LUMRYZ works for the treatment of EDS and cataplexy in patients with narcolepsy is unknown.

The American Academy of Sleep Medicine strongly recommends the use of sodium oxybate for the treatment of narcolepsy in adults.*

*For the treatment of excessive daytime sleepiness and cataplexy in adults, the American Academy of Sleep Medicine strongly recommends sodium oxybate and pitolisant. For the treatment of excessive daytime sleepiness in adults, it strongly recommends modafinil and solriamfetol.

An innovative extended-release oxybate formulation

The extended-release formulation of LUMRYZ contains a blend of granules that work in 2 ways:

The active ingredient in LUMRYZ is sodium oxybate

Designed to work while you sleep

After taking LUMRYZ before bed, the extended-release formulation allows the amount of medicine in your body to gradually decline toward your waking hours

This is different than other oxybates, which require a first dose at bedtime and a second dose 2.5 to 4 hours later

Comparison charts of medication levels in the body over time: LUMRYZ shows a single smooth curve from one bedtime dose, while other oxybates show two peaks, indicating a second dose needed 2.5 to 4 hours later.
2 graphs showing the difference between single dose and 2 doses.

Both LUMRYZ and other oxybates require that patients not drive for at least 6 hours after taking a dose.

Major contribution to patient care

The FDA found once-at-bedtime dosing to be a “major contribution to patient care”

“Once-at-bedtime dosing provides an opportunity to reduce sleep disruptions and fragmented sleep in a way that is not possible with twice-nightly dosing.”

“This is important because the goal of treating sleep disorders is to restore a normal sleep pattern and healthier overall sleep.”

–FDA Clinical Superiority Findings, October 2024*

*Based on a determination of Orphan Drug Exclusivity by the FDA Office of Orphan Products Development between LUMRYZ and XYREM® (sodium oxybate) or XYWAV® (calcium, magnesium, potassium, and sodium oxybates). There are no head-to-head data for LUMRYZ and XYREM or XYWAV.

Green quote

“Once-at-bedtime LUMRYZ for me means I can go to sleep thinking about what I’m going to do the next day, instead of thinking about taking another dose during the night.”
